Fort Greene Park Environmental Graphic

Project Brief

Fort Greene Park runners jog along winding paths and climb the mountainous steps. We wanted to celebrate their dedication and encourage them to continue on. We started by brainstorming motivational phrases and observing how people used the park. We noticed a pattern. While working out is rarely motivated by convenience, people running the stairs usually took the most direct route. The advantage of outdoor workouts is the change in scenery, yet people in the park stuck to their repetitive paths. With this in mind, we scattered a series of opposing arrows, guiding runners up the Fort Greene Park stairs. As runners reach the uppermost arrow, the phrase, “Don’t be afraid to create your own path” is revealed on the final flight of stairs.
